Alumni serve up family-friendly Halloween activities

What’s Halloween without spooky fun spent with monsters, pumpkins and good-natured ghosts? Get into costume, gather your family, grab some snacks, and check out these family-friendly Halloween movies and activities, powered by Sheridan alumni.

The Addams Family (2019)

In this animated version of the Halloween classic, members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams’ eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighbourhood. Over half a dozen alumni worked on the film, including Keely Prop (Animation ’16) – named one of Variety’s 10 Animators to Watch in 2019.

 ParaNorman (2012)

In this family film, Norman Babcock is the resident of an ill-fated town that is reeling under a deadly curse. Norman, with his unique ability to talk to ghosts, and a few companions must work together save the town. The animation team is chock full of Animation alumni, including Story Artists Vera Brosgol (’05) and Graham Annable (’91). Annable also worked on Coraline — another Halloween classic — and later went on to co-direct the animated fantasy The Boxtrolls.

Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Golden Globe-nominated Hotel Transylvania stars Dracula as a business owner, operating a high-end resort for monsters. He goes into overprotective mode when a human boy discovers the resort and falls for his teenaged daughter. The film spawned two sequels and a TV series, with alumni involved in all four. Helen Lebeau (Media Arts ’82), former VP of production at Corus Entertainment, produced the award-winning television series.
